Inpatient Services
If the patient meets the criteria for admission, the physician issues an admission order and prints the outpatient medical record. The commercial insurance coordinator collects the patient's ID and direct billing insurance card, verifies the insurance benefits, and initiates the admission booking and the insurance pre-authorization request (this takes 3–7 days, except in emergencies).
Once pre-authorization is approved, the commercial insurance coordinator notifies the patient to complete admission. In a medical emergency, the pre-authorization request may be submitted within 48 hours after admission; in such cases, the patient first pays the inpatient deposit (RMB 15,000 for Ward A17 and RMB 50,000 for Ward A18), which is refunded to the original payment method once pre-authorization is approved.
The physician issues the discharge order and prescribes discharge medication. The commercial insurance coordinator and finance staff verify the bill, and the patient pays any co-payments and non-covered charges and signs to confirm the claim form, the bill and the invoice.
The patient scans the QR code to add the "Commercial Insurance Assistant" (商保小助手) account on WeChat, and a nurse sets up a dedicated service group to provide ongoing support. After discharge, the patient may collect a complimentary parking voucher at the front nurses' station.
Direct Billing with Commercial Insurance
Direct billing is a value-added service of high-end medical insurance that moves the claims process ahead of payment: the patient receives care using a high-end medical insurance card or a guarantee of payment letter and does not need to pay all or part of the medical expenses on site (depending on the individual's insurance coverage), and the hospital settles directly with the insurance company afterward. The International Medical Center has signed direct billing agreements with a number of insurance companies and third-party organizations.
